On Sunday 4th of May, Pannal juniors entertained Rudding park for the first league match of the year. In total 10 juniors from each club showcased some great golf. Although only the first six matches counted for the result, Pannal had 7 wins and 3 losses. The matches were played with good spirit and the main match ended up as a draw. Archie Greenwood Jowet, Zach Marsh and Harry Stalker were successful for the Pannal Team.

On Monday 5th May, the annual Ladies v Juniors 4BBB match for the Lockwood Trophy proved as competitive as always. The Juniors, eager to regain the trophy after the Ladies won in 2024, showed serious intent by fielding a very talented team. All matches were closely fought & despite some impressive play by the Juniors, the Ladies prevailed winning 3-1 overall to retain the trophy. The event was rounded off with a meal together followed by the trophy presentation.

Sunday 4 May was the Ladies ‘Alternative Mary Lee’ Medal qualifier competition, four ladies played with Carole Whiles top scoring with nett 73, the round including 2 birdies and 3 pars.

Tuesday 6 May was a Ladies Medal, 45 ladies entered the competition.

Division 1 was won by Sandra Taylor, with a score of nett 69, which included 4 birdies and 8 pars. Sandra had a ‘back nine of her life’ with a gross score of 34, with her playing partners admiring the accuracy of her shots. Val Smith-Jackman topped division 2, nett 73, including 3 pars. Lisa O’Reilly the leader in division 3, nett 70, with 2 pars.

This competition, along with the Sunday Mary Lee Medal, was also a qualifier for the Mary Lee knockout, with the top 8 scores from across both dates, going into the Mary Lee singles matchplay competition.

7 Ladies played in the 9 hole Green course Stableford Competition, Ann Chippindale top scoring with 22 points.

Seven ladies played in the 9 hole Stableford competition, Zoe Laver the winner with 24 points.

The Scratch & 1st team match against Rudding Park took place on Thursday 8th May at Pannal. The 1st team (Jason Taylor, Will Eardley, James Matthews & Dom Jesper) won 5-3. Overall Pannal won 15 points v 5 points to remain top of the league on 29 points, 7 points ahead of Romanby. Next up is a home match against Otley Golf Club.

Pannal Victory in the Union Division III Championship

Ripon City Golf Club hosted the Third Division Championship last Sunday May 4th and 72 golfers from across the Union did battle in 4-man teams for the prestigious Trophy.

The Pannal team of Bruce Allison, David Rance, Thomas Robinson and Alistair Abraham finished with 129 points to give them a comfortable victory over Knaresborough who accumulated 126 points to take the runners up spot.

The best individual score on the day was recorded by the youngest player in the field - Pannal's last minute substitute 12-year-old Thomas Robinson who shot 38 points to edge out teammate Alistair Abraham who managed 37. Thomas is pictured with Union Competition Secretary Mike Edwards.

Union President Ian Hepworth congratulated Pannal and Thomas on their victories and noted that the golfers competing included a 12-year-old, a teenager and golfers in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50, 60's, 70s and even one golfer who was 71 years older than the winner.
